River Trails Ravens' girls finished first and the boys finished third at this weekend's cross country sectionals, qualifying both for the upcoming state meet in Normal, Illinois.
In the girls two-mile run, seven Ravens finished in the top 34, including three in the top 10, allowing the team to edge MacArthur Middle School and Millburn Middle School in the overall standings. This follows Trails' first Mid Suburban Athletic Conference championship in team history.
On the boys' side, seven runners finished in the top 67, including two in the top 10, placing them third behind Millburn and Oak Grove.
Both teams will compete in the state meet on October 16 at Maxwell Park in Normal. The girls are scheduled to run at 9:30 a.m. and the boys at 10:15. According to Coach Jim Kuperman, this is the first time anyone can remember both teams qualifying for state in the same year.
