Dear River Trails Families,
It is with a bittersweet feeling that I write this letter to inform you I will be resigning from my position as superintendent of schools for River Trails School District 26, effective June 30, 2022, and intend to officially retire on my next birthday. For the past five years, it has been my honor and privilege to serve this district. Joining the River Trails family was a dream come true and it has been nothing less than a remarkable experience.
There are so many people I will miss. First and foremost, our teachers and staff, whose dedication to our students and community has been a daily source of inspiration. Working in education is never easy and recently it has been especially challenging. I cannot imagine where our district would be without their talent and devotion. I have cherished working alongside them and am comforted that our district will continue to benefit from these amazing people.
Our students are special. I have been fortunate to watch as these young learners blossom into impressive, well-rounded individuals. I think about the impact they will make on the world and am proud of the role our schools are playing in that. The way they have handled these past two years is the most impressive display I have seen in my educational career.
This community and our families are what drew me to the district in the first place. We might be a small district, but we are a proud one. We are forward-thinking, adaptable and diverse. There has been so much love and support, especially at a time when we have all needed it the most. That is something I will never forget.
The last five years have been an amazing experience. While it is difficult to leave, I am confident that everyone here will continue to grow and thrive. I look forward to serving in my role for the remainder of the school year and assisting with a seamless transition.
Thank you for making me feel welcome and inspiring me since the first day I arrived. I am proud of the work we have done and eager to watch as the district continues to excel.
With sincere appreciation and gratitude,
Dr. Nancy Wagner
Superintendent of Schools
